Background

In January 2020 newly acquainted singer, Lizzie Freeborn and songwriter Amy Woodburn came up with the idea of creating songs that aim to provoke reflection and action and to inspire love for the home we call earth. Wake the River released their debut album Where She Walks in summer 2020, streaming sensation Sapphire and follow up album Of Blood and Star in Winter 2022 and in 2023 alt folk epic Snow is a Colour.

Always attempting to unite listeners and find ways to draw attention to the greatest challenge ever to face humans, Wake the River aim to move and inspire.

The Band

Cornwall, UK based Lizzie, 22 and Amy, 45, though a generation apart, share much. Both had a musical up-bringing rich in folk and classical music that underpins their love for melodic.

Multi instrumentalist Ashley Height and jazzed trained drummer Matt Griffiths join the pair for their live journey and the creation of material in 2023 and beyond.

The band describe their sound as a fusion of folk styles from around the world with an ethereal edge.
